My HDV Sony Camcorder(HVR-A1U) is no longer recognized by Final Cut Pro 6, nor does it show up under Firewire in the System Profiler window of my Mac Pro. It worked up until yesterday, although I had to try different hook-up strategies (disconnecting, rebooting connecting, etc.) on the last day to get it to work.
My brand new computer doesn't recognize my used Sony HVR-V1U pro camcorder. Just had a FireWire card installed on my new computer with Windows 7 on it. I have brand new Sony Home Studio software. My computer recognizes my old cheap canon camcorder, but not the HVR-V1U! I've adjusted all of my camera settings (according to manual instructions), tried turning the computer on first and the camera first. I can run my HVR-V1U to my old camcorder, no problem, so I assume it is a driver or compatibility issue. Sony says there is no driver for this camera. Tried IEEE 4pin to 4pin and 4pin to 6pin. Nothing works. The best I get is an error message saying that my computer failed to install or recognize the driver. Any idea what is going on here?
Thanks in advance!
Steve
Hi - We just bought Avid Xpress Pro HD (software only) anticipating that the 5.2 release would support the new Sony HVR-A1U HDV camcorder which we just purchased to shoot some corporate video. The Sony HVR-A1U also features a FireWire port that is compatible with the MacBook Pro. While the FireWire technology is not supported by every Mac model, the interface does produce faster transfer speeds than USB. Jul 27, 2007 Hello. I had a basic question. I was wondering if the Sony HVR-A1U could record straight to a computer tethered through a firewire cable? I need to work on a project for my job where I might need to be doing a lot of recording of instructional material and would rather tether the camcorder to my computer and record straight to it than deal with recording to tape and then transferring to a.

Sony Hvr V1u Camcorder
I have a Sony HVR-A1U HDV 1080i video camera that I'm trying to capture the content of the DVC cassette into iMovie on my iMac.
1) iMOVIE / iMac doesn't recognize the camera, or source.
2) I've tried (2) different brands of Firewire, still nothing.
3) I've even tried Adobe Premier (Trial verison), and nothing.
I'm no pro at this, and about to loose my flipping mind trying to figure all this out. I've seen where this camera, isn't supported by iMovie, or iMac, the MPEG format isn't recognizable in iMovie, etc. etc. etc.
The killer element to me is that the guy who owned this camera before me, used it flawlessly with a Mac, and an earlier version of iMovie.
Thoughts?
Appreciate the help.
