Sony Dcr-trv330 Drivers For Mac

Please forgive my posting. I've searched 100 times and keep finding answers that aren't very clear for a 'non-tech, new to Mac' person.
Long story short:
I received a SONY DCR-TRV330 Digital8 camcorder this weekend as a gift. The thing looks brand new and apparently wasn't used much. The manual is pretty bad at explaining how to transfer moving images captured on the tapes into a computer.
I hooked up the USB cable and have run that into my MacBook (OSX 10.5.5). But I get no option to use the camera as a source.
The only thing missing (of course) from the box was the Driver disc that comes with it. EVERYTHING else is there. Is it possible that the lack of this disc is causing the problem?
I assumed that my Mac would be able to identify it because this camera is from 2001 or 2 and I have an old digital still camera from like 1994 that it recognized no problem.
Forgive my stupidity. I'm new to Mac and LOVE it but am having some difficulties with all the tech talk explanations I'm finding on-line. None of them are clearly stated for idiots.
I have an appointment at the Genius bar tomorrow but am wondering if I'm missing something INCREDIBLY easy that I'm just not aware of.
Thanks for your time if you have an easy answer or suggestion!

Dec 04, 2008  (Handycam and Mac) My Mac Mini PPC version did not recognize a Canon HG10 nor would it load iMovie v.8. I' guessing it needs a faster intel based Mac Mini to do both these things. I use the software for record some moment with myfriend to mylaptop with OS windows 8.1 and editing myvideo also in my laptop to copy on DVD. Transfer and View content from my camera and edit as required.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
